How anti-wrinkle injections can help hyperhidrosis

So we all experience some sweating under our arms and a bit of antiperspirant deodorant may be all that is needed. But some can experience excess sweating also known as hyperhidrosis. You may be quite embarrassed about the condition and not being able to wear light-coloured tops or certain materials is not ideal. Or do you experience hyperhidrosis on your hands or forehead, making you worry every time you have to shake someone’s hand, attend your next event! This is where anti-wrinkle injections can come in.

It’s like turning off the sweat tap

Anti-wrinkle injections are simply fantastic at stopping your hyperhidrosis! But it’s blocking the sweat glands and that’s dangerous because you need to be able to let the sweat out? you may ask. It’s actually not. What it is doing is turning off the tap, a bit like having a tap that is dripping and you simply go and turn it off. So anti-wrinkle injections are simply blocking the production of a chemical called acetylcholine. Here is another way to explain it. So your brain tells, let’s say your armpit, to sweat. But the sweat gland never gets the message so the sweat gland doesn’t do it. It’s like fixing a fault rather than actually blocking up the sweat glands, which a lot of deodorants and topical treatments for excessive sweating actually do.

10 minutes is all you need

The procedure itself is very simple and only takes 5 minutes on each armpit. Similar on hands and feet. Unfortunately, the palms of your hands and feet can be quite uncomfortable and painful. Therefore local anaesthetic may be needed in these areas. But armpits aren’t particularly sensitive and with a bit of numbing cream it can almost be a painless procedure. As the treatment lasts up to 6 months, you may have it done twice a year. Alternatively, you can choose to have the procedure at the start of summer.
